Hydroponic Growing

Hydroponics, or growing plants in a nutrient solution root medium, or soil-less, is a growing area of commercial food production and is also used for home food production. Controlled environment agriculture is an advanced and intensive form of hydroponically-based agriculture that combines horticultural and engineering techniques that optimize crop production, crop quality and production efficiency.

Controlled environment agriculture facilities can range from the very low-tech such as row covers and high/low plastic covered tunnels, to fully automated glass greenhouses with computer controls...geared toward local and commercial food production.

The ACTS Charitable Foundation supports innovative hydroponic growing and offers access to partners that provide opportunities to foster hydroponic greenhouse vegetable businesses in any environment by providing horticultural, marketing, business planning and greenhouse design support. This support is provided by direct contact with individuals, seminars, tours, interactive internet websites, and on-site instruction and mentoring.

ACTS Hydroponic Growing projects provides access to proven hydroponic systems that produce vegetables, fruits and flowers, inside structures such as greenhouses, and re-purposed urban, or abandoned civic and commercial buildings. By implementing controlled environment agriculture, high value crops are grown at maximum productivity in an efficient and environmentally friendly way.

Global Impact

Rural poverty is a major problem in the underdeveloped areas of the world. A major reason for this poverty is the lack of agricultural productivity. Much of the land is incapable of being farmed due to high salinity, a lack of natural resources, and the use of unsustainable farming methods that have stripped the soil of its nutrients. Through the Foundation these factors can be alleviated by alternative farming techniques such as hydroponics.

The goal of ACTS Hydroponic Growing projects is to assist in the acquisition, design and construction of hydroponic systems that can be integrated into both urban and rural environments with various geographic and climatic conditions.

ACTS Hydroponic Growing projects are self-sustainable, leading to increased yields, hence increased profits that can be ploughed back to improve the project.
